Iryn Namubiru shows class at Roast and Rhyme
The “Soul on Strings” edition of Roast and Rhyme wrapped up 2024 with a heartwarming blend of soul-stirring music, sizzling grills, and picnic vibes by the serene lakeside at Jahazi Pier, Munyonyo.
This final edition of the year featured soulful performances headlined by Ugandan legends like Iryn Namubiru, ZuliTums, and Maro, each adding their unique flair to the enchanting setting at Jahazi Pier.
Making Iryn Namubiru the highlight of the event was a brilliant choice by the organizers, as she delivered a performance that gave revellers far more than they had paid for. The legendary artist, dressed in a black bodycon romper jumpsuit, performed half of her catalog, with a tracklist of timeless hits including “Tebiba Bingi,” “Kawoowo,” “Nkuweki,” “Essimu Y’ekiro,” “Yenze,” “Byendi Byoli,” “Birowoozo,” “Simbalala,” and “Empissa Zo,” among others. Her time on stage ignited the crowd’s energy, with fans across all generations singing along to most of her songs, moved by emotion.
Before Namubiru’s set, Maro, who last performed in Uganda four years ago, returned to the big stage with tracks like “Mubbi Bubbi,” “Kamboyine,” “Kyokoba,” and “Anjagala,” among others.
ZuliTums and An Known were the other performers at this family-friendly event, while Lynda Ddane and DJ Melvyn set the atmosphere earlier in the evening with a mix of gospel, old-school R&B, Afro beats, and classic Ugandan anthems, creating a night filled with dance and laughter.
