TikToker Angella Namubiru wins People’s Choice Awards

It was glee and joy for Angella Summer Namubiru, a 27-year-old model and TikToker on winning the African Social Star accolade in the People’s Choice Awards 2022. The highly anticipated annual American awards with an online voting experience had all the nominees experience palpable anxiety as they awaited the results.

To celebrate her win, she tweeted, “What great News my Fellow Ugandans, let’s celebrate this Uganda. We are the winners of the @peopleschoice awards 2022.”

In the battle, Namubiru faced it off with Sphokuhle, a South African TikToker, Liquorose, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, Dr Shauwn Mkhize, a South African socialite, Ama Qamata, a South African actress, Swanky Jerry, a Nigerian musician, Juddyda, an Angolan model and Khanyi Mbau, a South African actress.

The turned TikTok sensation was formerly a dancer at City Rock Entertainment and usually shares videos of herself in rural environments on TikTok. Currently, with a followership of 5.7 million, Namubiru is the most followed TikToker in East Africa.

The People’s Choice Awards are an American awards show held since 1975 designed to recognise people in entertainment.
