Being born without a lower right arm has not stopped Uganda’s Husna Kukundakwe from becoming an icon for her country and raising its flag high.

The 15-year-old para swimmer recently continued with her tremendous performances earning Uganda six medals at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey where 4,000 athletes from at least 55 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are competing for 355 medals.

Competing in freestyle, butterfly and backstroke, the Ugandan para swimmer won gold in the 200m individual medley after posting a time of 3.17.24 minutes, a silver medal in 50m freestyle, a gold medal in 100m breaststroke and a silver medal in 400m freestyle.

The Ugandan swimmer was at it again winning two other medals to ensure in total she has so far won six medals including two gold, three silver and one bronze whereas Uganda has won a total of eight medals.

Kukundakwe begun swimming at the age of five and is a member of the Gators swim club.

The other two were won by long distance runner, Abel Chebet who took silver and bronze in men’s 10,000m and 5,000m respectively.

The eight medals have lifted Uganda to the eighth position on the medal table.

Uganda sent 42 participants to the games in Turkey to take part in athletics, table tennis, para swimming, weightlifting, wrestling, cycling, archery, basketball judo and taekwondo.
